We The People is a music video collection produced by Netflix. This show aims to help kids to learn the basics of rights and citizenship with upbeat songs by popular artists like Janelle Monáe, H.E.R., Adam Lambert, Brandi Carlile and more.

Buck Design got the chance to created some of the music videos, and I was lucky to work on 3 pieces among them at Buck.

My credits:
E1. Active Citizenship: Storyboard / Cel animator

E2. The Bill of Rights: Storyboard

E9. We the People: Animation director / Cel animator

an example of our working process. I did the rough animation in cel to block the timing and performance, and then the AE team recreated the animation using shape layers.

another example of a more traditional character animation working progress, I started the rough, and then cleaned them up.

A concept design frame from another episode We the People. Design by Buck

This is an early design frame from ep09. To achieve the randomness and craziness feeling, I referenced from some elements from Japanese anime and created the animation test on the right.

Unfortunately, the design chanced at the last moment. Design by Buck

The final design is more graphic with simple shapes, so I redesigned the whole sequence to match the new detraction.
